Myeongdong Dermatology Laser Hair Removal: Which Device Should You Choose?
Hello.
I’m Kang-in Lee, director of Kind Global Clinic, and I make it a point to listen carefully to every patient. I’d like to share some helpful information for those considering laser hair removal at a Myeongdong dermatology clinic.

GentleMax or Apogee?
Which device should you choose for hair removal?
Certain devices often come up when people think about laser hair removal.
Two of the best-known are GentleMax and Apogee.
With so many different opinions about the two devices, many people find it hard to decide which one to choose.
Some people even choose a dermatology clinic based solely on the device name.
However, GentleMax and Apogee each have different characteristics, so it’s worth taking a closer look at what sets them apart.
Today, I’ll go through what to consider when comparing devices, as well as other factors that are just as important as the choice of device.
Laser Hair Removal at a Myeongdong Dermatology Clinic: What to Consider
1. Why compare laser hair removal devices?
2. Differences between GentleMax and Apogee
3. What else to consider besides the device
1. Why compare laser hair removal devices?

Laser devices don’t all work the same way for hair removal.
Each device has its own characteristics, including its wavelength, delivery method, and cooling system.
“Which wavelength does it use?”
“How does it deliver energy to the skin?”
These differences can affect how the treatment is performed and, in turn, the results.

For example, a device with an advanced cooling system may be helpful for someone with a darker skin tone and thick, dense hair.
Darker skin tone
Thick, dense hair
Delivering enough energy under these conditions may also mean exposing the skin to more heat.
On the other hand, lowering the energy to limit irritation may make it harder to achieve the expected hair removal results.
What if a device with an effective cooling system is used?

Cooling the skin’s surface while the laser is being delivered can reduce unnecessary heat exposure while allowing treatment to be performed with the results in mind.
By contrast, if the skin or hair is different, the presence or absence of a cooling system may have a different impact on the results.
So the purpose of comparing devices isn’t simply to decide which one is better.
Think of it as a way to find a device that suits your skin and hair.
2. Differences between GentleMax and Apogee

What are the differences between these two devices?
Power
Spot size
Pulse duration range
Cooling method
These are some of the specific features you can compare.

First, the GentleMax Pro Plus uses two wavelengths, 755nm and 1064nm, and supports a spot size of up to 26mm.
A larger spot size means a wider area can be treated with each pass over the same area.
For larger areas such as the legs or arms, this can help shorten treatment time.

The GentleMax Pro Plus also offers a short pulse duration of 0.2ms.
※ What is a pulse?
The time it takes for the laser energy to be delivered in a single shot
Concentrating and delivering energy over a short period may help reduce treatment time.
DCD cooling briefly lowers the temperature of the skin’s surface before the laser is delivered, helping reduce unnecessary heat exposure.

The Apogee Plus, by contrast, uses a single wavelength, 755nm Alexandrite.
Its spot size is up to 18mm, and its pulse duration starts at 0.4ms, which may be less advantageous for response time and fine adjustments.
Its cooling system works by continuously blowing cold air onto the skin’s surface while the laser is being delivered to reduce heat.
When using high energy, its cooling effect may be less effective.

To sum up the characteristics of the two devices:
GentleMax Pro Plus
Useful for considering a range of factors, including large treatment areas, fine hair, and darker facial skin tones
Apogee Plus
A suitable option for basic laser hair removal
That’s a simple way to understand the differences between the devices.
3. What else to consider besides the device

That said, I hope you won’t assume that one device is always better than the other.
Laser hair removal is a procedure performed by a medical professional, and the results can vary depending on their experience.
After assessing the patient’s skin and hair,
“It would be better to increase the energy a little for this area.”
“I should adjust the way I deliver the laser.”
Making choices like these to suit the situation takes more than simply learning a manual.
It requires clinical judgment developed through hands-on experience with a range of skin and hair types.

So when looking into laser hair removal, rather than focusing only on the device brand,
consider whether the clinic takes your skin and hair into account
and adjusts the treatment settings in detail
I recommend checking this as well.
Which wavelength will be used?
What power level will be set?
How will the intervals between laser shots be determined?
Why were those settings chosen?
If you can’t get clear answers to these questions, it’s worth looking into the clinic further.

As I often say, having a good knife doesn’t mean everyone can make a great meal.
What matters is the chef’s judgment in using the knife to suit the ingredients.
The device and experience—
When considering laser hair removal at a Myeongdong dermatology clinic, I hope you’ll look at both of these factors.
Thank you. This has been Kang-in Lee.
