Dermatology Clinic Near Chungmuro Station: Which Treatment Is Right for Love Handles?
Hello.
I’m Lee Won-jin, the director of Kind Global Clinic, where I provide dermatology care near Chungmuro Station.

“I’ve been taking Mounjaro, but the fat around my sides is still there...”
Could Onda and InMode make a difference?
Many people are now losing weight by combining exercise with Mounjaro.
But stubborn fat in specific areas, such as the upper arms, sides, or inner thighs,
can be difficult to lose, even with consistent exercise and Mounjaro.
Some people are also concerned about loose, sagging skin.

(I’ve also lost weight with Mounjaro, so I’ve had similar concerns myself ^^)
In these cases, Body Onda and InMode can be used to address both stubborn fat and skin firmness.
Today, I’ll explain how these two devices differ and when each one may be considered.
<What we’ll cover today>
1. How Body Onda and InMode use heat
2. Which treatment may be right for me?
3. How to address stubborn fat and body contours together
1. How Body Onda and InMode use heat

Onda and InMode are different devices, but some aspects of their basic treatment principles are similar.
Both use heat energy to bring about changes in the fat layer.
When exposed to heat above a certain temperature, fat cells in the body may lose function and undergo breakdown.

A study examining the breakdown of fat cells reported that fat cells exposed to heat of around 42–47℃ for a certain period
may undergo apoptosis (programmed cell death).

A closer look at the research findings reveals a noticeable difference.
The left image (A) shows fat tissue before treatment, with healthy nuclei (red arrow).
In contrast, the right image (B) shows fat tissue after treatment,
where the cells appear smaller and damaged, with condensed nuclei (red circle).
This can be understood as a way of delivering heat mainly to the fat layer while reducing damage to the skin’s surface.
Body Onda and InMode are also based on this principle.
2. Which treatment may be right for me?

“Don’t both treatments work by reducing fat?”
In a broad sense, yes.
However, they differ in how they deliver energy, which areas they target, and their overall approach.

First, let’s take a look at how Onda works.
Onda delivers heat to the fat layer using microwave energy.
One of its features is that heat is generated relatively quickly.
So rather than staying in one spot for a long time, the device is moved across the treatment area.

Because of this, it can be used to
1) address stubborn fat spread across a wider area, or
2) refine overall body contours.
For example, it may be considered when you want to refine the contours of areas such as the
sides
inner thighs
abdomen
and other areas of the body.

InMode works differently.
It delivers radiofrequency energy while suctioning the fat tissue.
One advantage is that it draws in the skin and fat, allowing energy to be concentrated on the desired area.
“This area sticks out more than the rest.”
“I only want to refine my double chin.”
InMode may be considered when a specific area needs to be targeted in this way.

However, there are also factors to consider based on the device’s characteristics.
Because the skin needs to be suctioned, it may be difficult to use on areas with pronounced curves or a small surface area,
and since the device does not have a cooling function, there is a limit to the amount of energy that can be delivered at one time.
For this reason, it is difficult to say that one is definitively better than the other.
The amount of fat remaining,
the body contours you want,
and the area being treated
can all affect which option is appropriate.
3. How to address stubborn fat and body contours together

I don’t see Onda and InMode as competing devices.
I believe each device can complement the other in different ways.
People concerned about stubborn fat often have more than one issue,
with concerns about both fat volume and body contours.

Take a double chin, for example.
There may be fat gathered beneath the chin as well as a less defined jawline.
The upper arms can also have areas where fat is concentrated, along with surrounding contours that need refinement.
In these situations,
1. We can first address areas where fat has accumulated
with InMode,
2. then refine the surrounding contours
with Onda.
Adding fat-dissolving injections may also help support the process of eliminating broken-down fat.
To sum up,
double chin
upper arm fat
axillary breast tissue
inner thighs
are areas where Onda, InMode, and fat-dissolving injections may be considered together.

However, the same combination is not suitable for everyone.
The right approach may vary depending on the amount of fat, skin elasticity, and whether you are currently losing weight.
What matters is not deciding which device is superior,
but finding an effective approach that suits your body right now.

Today, we’ve looked at some common questions that come up in dermatology consultations near Chungmuro Station, focusing on Body Onda and InMode.
Both devices can be used to improve stubborn fat, but they deliver energy in different ways.
Rather than choosing just one device, remember that there are ways to use them appropriately based on their individual characteristics.
Thank you. This was Lee Won-jin.
